WEBSITE REDESIGN

Assessing content, ux and visual design for a more inclusive website

As rootid’s trusted partners since 2015, Contra Costa College sought to redesign their campus website to better reflect and serve their community. We began the project through in depth user research doing a series of surveys, focus groups and 1:1 interviews to better understand what issues students, faculty, staff, administrators and other community members were having finding the information they needed.

We then conducted a thorough website audit, analyzing the most visited pages, identifying areas for messaging improvements, and highlighting opportunities to strengthen website visitors’ engagement and overall connection to the college experience. The college’s internal team helped identify key stakeholders, target audiences, and the visual styles and language that would resonate most effectively with each group.

Using insights from the stakeholder research and website audit, rootid designed and developed a website that features a community-centered aesthetic—bold, vibrant colors, large typography and approachable graphics. The content uses accessible, inclusive language, and the new photography showcases candid images of real students highlighted within Contra Costa College’s renovated campus. Additionally, rootid developed a more seamless ‘Career Pathways’ experience and designed, built and customized Contra Costa College’s eLumen online catalog.
