Focusing on Fundamental Rights

The Georgetown Law Center on Privacy & Technology is a think tank focused on privacy and surveillance law and policy.

Building a Brand System within an Established Brand

As a respected think tank, The Center consistently communicates with large government institutions, national media outlets, within legal systems and to fellow researchers. As such, presenting a consistent and professional visual brand across all of their communications channels is critical.

Though The Center is an independent think tank, they are housed within the Georgetown Law School, which means they must also adhere to the Georgetown brand guidelines, while creating their own visual language.

rootid worked with the Center to create branded templates that could be utilized in-house to create a consistent visual language across all of their communications channels.

Building a System for Rapid Report Release

The Center’s communications strategy leverages the development of online reports to distribute their research findings.

rootid’s design and development team created a Drupal website template that could be customized for each report, but standardized enough to allow for rapid development and deployment of key report findings.

Across a wide array of reports, rootid was able to create online reports that brought the research to life.

The reports were featured in major outlets such as the New York Times, NPR, Washington Post, CBS News and much more.

Bringing Research and Data to Life

In the Perpetual Line Up, rootid’s design and development team created an interactive map that allowed users to explore how facial recognition was being used across the United States to unfairly target marginalized groups.

The Center spent two years researching the use of facial recognition technology policies at the city, state and jurisdictional levels. During this research, The Center collected over 700 data points that rootid was challenged to design into a succinct and engaging online interface for both online.

The map brought the research data to life and provided users with an engaging way to explore the topic and better understand the systemic injustices that were in play.
